Event overview

March 7, 2025

11:00 am to 12:00 pm

Join us as we host Karen Bondarchuk, the artist behind the Ergo Sum: A Crow a Day project. In this project, Karen made a drawing of a crow every day as a way of marking the passage of time that her mother, who was experiencing dementia, no longer seemed to recognize. Bondarchuk's talk will focus on the creation of Ergo Sum (on display at the Museum and Archives of North Vancouver until June 1) and its relationship to her art.

A Canadian visual artist based in the United States, Karen Bondarchuk has exhibited widely across the U.S., Canada, Spain, France, Italy and India. Her work has been recognized with numerous national and international residencies, honours and awards, including being named Master Artist at the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI. Her art is featured in several prominent collections, such as the National Gallery of Canada and the Woodson Art Museum, as well as numerous private and public collections worldwide.

Bondarchuk holds an MFA in sculpture from the Ohio State University and a BFA in sculpture and video from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). She is currently a professor at the Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI.
