At a pivotal moment for the environmental and media landscape, journalists play a crucial role in keeping the public informed about climate change. At this timely event, award-winning journalists Steph Kwetásel’wet Wood (The Narwhal) and Anne Shibata Casselman (Maclean’s, The Walrus, National Geographic) will sit down with Laura Lynch (CBC) and discuss their experiences reporting on the natural world.

Presenter bios:

Steph Kwetásel’wet Wood is a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh journalist living and writing in her nation's territory, also known as North Vancouver. She has been reporting on the natural world at The Narwhal since 2020, working on news, investigations, solutions stories and community-focused features. Mining, biodiversity, species at risk, Indigenous rights and food security are a handful of the topics she reports on day-to-day. She earned her Master of Journalism degree at the University of British Columbia.

Anne Shibata Casselman reports on science, environment and public interest stories for outlets like Maclean’s, The Walrus, National Geographic, Scientific American and Canadian Geographic, among others. Her piece Canada in the Year 2060 received the Gold Medal for long-form feature writing at the National Magazine Awards. She holds a Masters in Science Communication from Imperial College London and currently lives in Vancouver.

Laura Lynch is an award-winning journalist and is the host of CBC’s What On Earth. In the course of her career, she has reported from across Canada and around the world. After many years abroad, Laura is back where she started in Vancouver, using her years of experience to tell Canadians what they need to know about climate change, its challenges and solutions.
