Event overview

May 28, 2025

6:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Sachi Komura Rummel was an 8-year-old girl playing in the schoolyard when the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima, just over three kilometres away. She survived, but it changed her life forever.

When the Fukushima nuclear disaster occurred, and deadly radiation spread across Japan once more, she was reminded of the nuclear devastation she experienced during her childhood. It motivated her to speak out about the importance of the non-proliferation of nuclear bombs and the importance of safe locations and procedures at nuclear power stations.

In this presentation, Rummel will share her first-person account of the Hiroshima bombing and its aftermath, and speak about her memoir Hiroshima: Memories of a Survivor
