The results are in for the 2024 Teen Writing Contest presented jointly by the North Vancouver City and North Vancouver District libraries! We received 27 impressive submissions from North Shore teens, all in response to our theme “Echoes from the Past”. The submissions were judged by library staff, local authors, and teens from both libraries’ teen advisory groups. The judges agreed that this year was particularly difficult to judge because of the high quality of submissions. The five winners with the highest average scores for our age categories were announced at the teen writing contest party held at NVCL on Saturday, Oct. 19. These winners will have their stories made into small books which will eventually be available in our libraries! In addition, our teen writers were invited to read a selection from their story, and the audience voted for the Audience Choice award ... which resulted in a tie!
Here are the winners:
- Overall winner: Cherry, by Cynthia Yu.
- Grades 7 – 9 first place: Timeless Lessons, by Amelia Horwood.

- Grades 10 – 12 first place: Once There Were Dragons, by Rachel MacDonald-Lin.
