City Library has partnered with local organization Bright Charge to add nine BigBlue 28W portable solar chargers to our collection. These items will be available for loan beginning on Earth Day (April 22). Designed for outdoor activities, they can easily be attached to a backpack, and can charge both Apple and Android phones. Read more about the chargers, and how to borrow them, on our devices page (available to borrow April 22). You can also view them and place a hold in the catalogue.

Jisoo, founder of Bright Charge, says, "We hope that through easy access to these solar charger kits, we help more residents become aware about solar energy and reduce electronic waste."

About Jisoo and Bright Charge

"Hello! My name is Jisoo, and I am the founder of Bright Charge. I first started the organization with the help of Metro Vancouver's Youth4Action Collaborative Highschool Action Mentorship Program, where I was able to develop this project with other participants and mentors. I’m passionate about using technology and educational initiatives to help environmental and ecological health. We want to introduce clean energy and sustainable technology in a tangible way, to break misconceptions of them ‘always being large scale’, such as Vancouver’s beloved SkyTrain system. We believe this is necessary, especially as more youth become interested in the technology industry – specifically the sustainable sector. I’m excited to see where Bright Charge and my future work take me as I continue exploring the intersection of sustainability and technology. Please check out our Linktree page. It contains our social media, email, and feedback form!"
